When it comes to Epic Places to propose to your partner, the Blue Mountains definitely has you covered. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast and want to hike to a lookout or just drive up to the edge of a cliff, this list is sure to have the perfect place for you to propose in the Blue Mountains! All the photos on this page are my own and I hope they can help inspire you to plan your own Blue Mountains Proposal.
1. Lincoln’s Rock, Wentworth Falls
Driving Difficulty: Easy (Sealed Roads)
Walking Difficulty: Easy (200m walk from Carpark)
One of the most beautiful places in the entire Blue Mountains, Lincoln’s Rock is the perfect place to propose! The best upside of Lincoln’s Rock is that there are no fences. It does make it a little scary for those afraid of heights but if you can get close to the edge the views are incredible. Lincoln’s Rock is just a short stroll from the brand new carpark at the end of Hordern Road in Wentworth Falls. Once you’re up on the rock you can walk right along the edge for about 50 metres to find the perfect spot. Lincoln’s Rock is also great for a sunset proposal since it looks west over the expansive Jamison Valley.
2. Olympian Rock, Leura
Driving Difficulty: Easy (Sealed Roads)
Walking Difficulty: Easy (100m walk down steps from Road)
In my opinion this is the best Blue Mountains Proposal Location. Just a short walk down some steps from Olympian Parade in Leura Village and you’re at Olympian Rock with amazing views out over the Jamison Valley across to Mount Solitary. Olympian Rock is a lesser known lookout than most of the others on this list and is therefore usually less crowded. Since the lookout is down the hill from the road, it is so easy to hide above and secretly photograph proposals at Olympian Rock! Plus if Olympian Rock is crowded, you can walk about 100m around to Elysian Rock which is also an amazing spot for a proposal.
3. Landslide Lookout, Katoomba
Driving Difficulty: Easy (Sealed Roads)
Walking Difficulty: Medium (300m walk down steps from Road)
This is one of the most unique Locations to propose in the Blue Mountains and chances are you will have it all to yourself. Located in Katoomba, just a 5 minute drive from the Three Sisters, Landslide Lookout looks South-West over the Narrow Neck Plateau. Just a short walk down from Cliff Drive gets you to a fenced Lookout at the cliffs edge, but walk another 50m around to the left and you will have uninterrupted views and your own private lookout. If you are really adventurous you can walk another 200m around to the left to a wide open rock with 270° views over the Valley! What a great place to Propose!
4. Sunset Rock Lookout, Mount Victoria
Driving Difficulty: Easy (Sealed Roads)
Walking Difficulty: Easy (200m walk from Road)
Sunset Rock like the name suggests is a great place to watch the Sunset, and an amazing Blue Mountains Proposal Location. Sunset Rock can get a little crowded on the Weekends but if you’re coming through the week you might have this entire place to yourself. Not only are there no fences here at Sunset Rock but there are also multiple rocks scattered along the edge of the cliff that are perfect for a proposal. Plus its just a short 200m walk down an easy path from the road!
5. Hargraves Lookout, Blackheath
Driving Difficulty: Medium (2km on Easy Unsealed Road)
Walking Difficulty: Easy (50m walk from Carpark)
Hargraves Lookout is probably the easiest lookout to access on this list since it is only a 50m walk from the Carpark to the main lookout (or 30m to the Wheelchair Accessible Lookout). It is about a 15 minute drive from Blackheath with the last 2km on dirt road but if you have the time I promise the views over the Megalong Valley are amazing. If you are a bit more adventurous you can walk 300m past the first lookout and down onto the ridge where you will find an unfenced lookout at the end. An incredible spot to propose!
6. Walls Lookout, Bells Line of Road near Mount Wilson
Driving Difficulty: Medium (1km on Easy Unsealed Road)
Walking Difficulty: Hard (800m walk from Carpark)
When it comes to jaw dropping views within the Blue Mountains, Walls Lookout takes the cake. Imagine proposing at sunset on the edge of a cliff looking down into the Grose Valley with giant cliff faces on the other side. This location is about an 800m walk from the carpark but I recently took a couple there for Wedding Photos so if they can make it so can you. Adventures like this are made for proposals because you have the perfect alibi. Just pretend you’re going out on a bushwalk and pop the question at the end!
7. Cahills Lookout, Katoomba
Driving Difficulty: Easy (Sealed Roads)
Walking Difficulty: Easy (200m walk from Carpark)
Cahills Lookout in Katoomba is one of the nicest lookouts in the Blue Mountains however that comes with it’s own challenges. It is often very crowded on weekends but if you’re up there through the week this would be an epic place to propose in Katoomba. The main platform at Cahills lookout is wheelchair accessible plus there are two other lookouts down some stairs on either side. Cahills lookout looks directly West over the Megalong Valley and is a great spot for sunset.
8. George Phillips Lookout, Blackheath
Driving Difficulty: Easy (Sealed Roads)
Walking Difficulty: Easy (200m walk from Carpark)
One lookout that didn’t make this list is Govett’s Leap because it is normally very crowded and not a very private place to propose. Instead if you are at Govett’s Leap, walk about 200m down the path to the left and you will come across George Phillips lookout. It has the same views as Govett’s Leap but is never crowded which makes it an amazing place to propose in the Blue Mountains.
9. Sublime Point Lookout, Leura
Driving Difficulty: Easy (Sealed Roads)
Walking Difficulty: Easy (200m walk from Carpark)
Another amazing location to Propose in the Blue Mountains is Sublime Point in Leura. It is definitely a lesser known location with heaps of vantage points only a 200m walk from the carpark at the end of Sublime Point Road. That said, if you are wanting to have your Proposal Photographed it can be a hard place since the lookouts are quite small and can be hard to keep the proposal a surprise. But I never say never!
10. Kanangra Walls, Kanangra Boyd National Park
Driving Difficulty: Medium (30km on Unsealed Road) (4wd not-required)
Walking Difficulty: Medium (1km walk from Carpark)
Saving the best for last, this lookout isn’t technically in the Blue Mountains National Park but it gets an honourable mention. Kanangra Walls is deep within Kanangra-Boyd National Park which is a 2 hour drive from Katoomba through Jenolan Caves but when I say the drive is worth it, I really mean it. This is the place that I proposed to my now Wife Emily & more recently I went back to photograph Matt & Abbey’s Proposal. I may be biased but this is the best place to propose in the Blue Mountains!
Well I hope this list has helped you find the perfect place to propose in the Blue Mountains. If you would like your Proposal Secretly Photographed or need any help planning your proposal please reach out and I would love to help you!
